Brow tinting or lamination: which to choose and how long it lasts
Brows shape your expression even without makeup, which is why brow treatments are among the most popular in any studio. Clients most often hesitate between tinting and lamination. Here is how they differ and how to choose.
Shaping: the basis of any brow treatment
Shaping gives your brows their form: the artist removes stray hairs and builds a line that suits your face. It can be done on its own, but it is usually combined with tinting or lamination for a finished look.
Brow tinting
Tinting adds colour and visual density, defines the shape and fills in the gaps between hairs. The artist matches the shade to your hair, skin and eye colour - brows should look natural, not drawn on.
How long it lasts: usually 2-4 weeks on the hairs and a few days on the skin. It depends on your skin type (tint fades faster on oily skin), aftercare and the cleansers you use.
Who it suits: fair, sparse brows or brows that get "lost" on the face, and anyone who wants to spend less time on makeup every day.
Brow lamination
Lamination sets the hairs in the direction you want. Brows become tame and look fuller and neater, while the hairs get care and shine. Lamination is what creates the popular "fluffy" brushed-up brow look.
How long it lasts: 4-8 weeks on average. New hairs gradually grow in and the effect softly fades.
Who it suits: unruly, coarse brows or brows that grow in different directions, and anyone who styles their brows with gel every morning.
Which to choose
- You want richer colour and a clear shape - shaping + tinting.
- The hairs are unruly but you like the colour - lamination.
- You want the maximum result - lamination with tinting and shaping: well-groomed, defined brows that hold their shape.
Brow lamination can be combined with a lash lift and lash tint - the price list includes ready-made bundles that save both time and money.
Aftercare
- For the first 24 hours, keep your brows dry, skip the sauna and avoid intense workouts.
- For the first few days, do not apply oils, scrubs or rich creams to your brows - they wash out the tint and the formula faster.
- After lamination, brush your brows into place every morning.
- Do not rub your brows with a towel - pat them dry.
How to prepare for your appointment
No special preparation is needed, but a few small things help you get a better result. Do not pluck your brows yourself for 2-3 weeks before your visit - your artist needs "material" to build a beautiful shape. Come without brow makeup, or be ready for it to be removed. Avoid peels and facials for a few days before - irritated skin is more sensitive to tint and formulas.
If you have ever reacted to hair or brow tint, be sure to tell your artist. It is also better to reschedule if there is inflammation, a rash or fresh skin damage in the brow area.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have lamination and tinting in one visit? Yes, and it is the most popular option: lamination first, then tinting and shaping. Tint goes on evenly after lamination and the result looks complete.
Will lamination damage my brows? Not when it is done correctly and the intervals are respected. The formulas contain conditioning ingredients, and your artist adjusts the processing time to your hairs.
What if my brows are sparse? Lamination makes them look fuller by setting the hairs so they fill the space. Tinting adds colour and defines the shape. And regular shaping helps you gradually grow your brows into the right form.
Can I tint my brows during pregnancy? Many people do, but skin sensitivity can change during this time. Let your artist know in advance.
Which shape suits me? It is chosen based on your facial proportions, eye shape and natural hair growth line. Your artist will advise which shape to grow out - sometimes a few weeks without tweezers is all it takes.
How often to repeat
Shaping and tinting are usually refreshed every 3-4 weeks and lamination every 6-8 weeks. Lamination should not be done more often: the hairs need time to renew.
Not sure what suits you? An NV Stars artist will look at your brows and advise you - sometimes good shaping is all it takes to transform your face.
