LPG massage: who it suits, how many sessions you need and what to expect
LPG massage is one of the best-known machine treatments for the body. People choose it to improve the look of their skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite and tone their silhouette. Here is an honest look at how it works, how many sessions you need and what the result depends on.
How LPG massage works
The machine has a treatment head with rollers and suction: it lifts a fold of skin, kneads it and rolls it. This stimulates blood and lymph circulation, softens the tissues and makes the skin firmer and smoother. The treatment is done in a special bodysuit that keeps it hygienic and helps the head glide evenly.
It feels like an intense but pleasant massage. Your therapist adjusts the intensity to suit you - it is usually gentler in the first session so your body can get used to it.
LPG, Endospheres and manual massage: the difference
- LPG works with suction and rollers and is well suited to areas with dense fat deposits and to firming the skin.
- Endospheres Therapy uses compressive micro-vibration: a cylinder of silicone spheres rotates and works gently on the tissues. It is often chosen for swelling and to improve skin quality.
- Deep manual massage lets the therapist work on specific muscles and problem areas by hand.
These methods do not compete - they complement each other. Your therapist will choose the right programme for you after a consultation.
Who it suits
- cellulite and uneven skin texture;
- loss of firmness - for example, after weight loss;
- swelling and a feeling of "heavy legs";
- maintaining your shape alongside exercise and a healthy diet.
How many sessions you need
LPG is a course treatment: one session leaves you feeling lighter, but visible results build up over time. Studies most often used 2 sessions a week, with a course of around 10-15 treatments. After that, results can be maintained with 1-2 sessions a month. Each massage lasts 40-60 minutes on average, depending on the programme.
To be honest, results vary a lot from person to person. LPG does not replace movement and nutrition and does not "melt" fat on its own. But combined with an active lifestyle it noticeably improves skin quality and body shape.
Contraindications
The treatment is not done during pregnancy, with cancer, thrombophlebitis or vein inflammation, infections or fever, or with skin rashes or broken skin in the treatment area. A break is needed after injectable treatments. If you have any chronic conditions, be sure to tell your therapist in advance.
How to prepare for your first session
Avoid a heavy meal 1-2 hours before the treatment - abdominal massage and intensive work are less comfortable on a full stomach. Drink a glass of water. Do not apply oil or rich cream to your body on the day. If you have fresh bruises or irritation, or have recently had injectable treatments, mention it when you book.
At your first visit the therapist will ask about your wellbeing, goals and lifestyle, look at the areas that concern you and suggest a programme. Do not hesitate to say exactly what you want: less swelling, firmer skin after weight loss or simply maintaining your shape.
Frequently asked questions
Does LPG hurt? No. The first session is usually the gentlest and the intensity is increased gradually. You may feel it more on areas with dense deposits, but it should not be painful - tell your therapist if you are uncomfortable.
Can it cause bruising? Rarely, when the intensity is set correctly. If you have thin skin or visible veins, let your therapist know and they will choose a gentler mode.
When will I see results? A feeling of lightness and less swelling are often noticeable after the first few sessions. Changes in skin texture and body shape build up over the course.
Can I combine LPG with workouts? Yes, and it is even better: movement enhances the effect of the massage. Just do not plan a hard workout straight after a session.
Can I have a massage during my period? Many therapists recommend avoiding the abdominal area on those days, or rescheduling if you feel unwell. Tell your therapist and they will adjust the programme.
How to boost your results
- Drink enough water on treatment days.
- Add movement: even daily walks enhance the effect.
- Do not skip sessions - regularity matters more than intensity.
- Cut down on salt and sugar - swelling and cellulite respond to diet.
